Eo-Navia is one of Asturias’ eight comarcas or administrative regions.ย Most of this area consist of the Oscos Eo Biosphere Reserve. Diverse water bodies characterize this reserve: small streams, rivers, the Eo delta and the Cantabrian sea. Another characteristic is the variety of artisan work carried out. Along the coast, fishermen catch fish using traditional methods. Inland, in the fairy tale-like area of Taramundi, artisans make Asturiasโ€™ best knives using unique secret production processes. You also find nice hiking trails that lead you past knives-, mills- and ethnographic museums.

We organize the following activities in Eo-Navia:

History and Heritage

Our history and heritage tours and trips take you back in time to Asturiasโ€™ unique past.

Asturiasโ€™ history started millions of years ago whenย dinosaursย roamed its coast. In the Paleolithic, our ancestors left incredible cave art, such as inย World Heritage Site Tito Bustillo.

Theย Romans built bridges, aqueducts and public baths. The Reconquistaย started in Asturias with the famous Battle of Covadonga in 722. Here, Asturiasโ€™ first King Pelayo defeated the Arabs. During the subsequent reign of the Asturian dynasty (722-910), theย pre-Romanesqueย style was born. You can still visit some pre-Romanesque buildings, for exampleย San Juliรกn de los Pradosย andย Santa Marรญa del Narancoย inย Oviedo.

In the 19thย and 20thย century, thousands of Asturiansย emigratedย to โ€˜Las Americasโ€™. The people who returned (Indianos) built large mansions inspired by Latin- American architecture. You can still visit many of them today.

Theย Industrial Revolution, especially the development ofย coal and iron mines, and the resultant iron and steel industry still shapes the current Asturian identity and culture.
