Itinerary
You arrive in Asturias by train, plane or car. The first few nights of your trip you stay in a 19th century rural hotel just outside of Gijon. The small-scale accommodation with 11 rooms helps you to relax completely. Breakfast is served in the common room by the friendly owner, whose family has owned the mansion for generations.
A short car ride away lies a family-owned Llagar, a famous Asturian apple cider-making factory. The enthusiastic, English-speaking guide leads you around its facilities. At the end, you can of course taste the cider yourselves, accompanied by some typical Asturian cheese!
In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to explore Gijon. Gijon is a nice coastal town that you can easily explore on foot or by bike. Stroll through the old fishermen’s quarter Cimavilla, walk along its boulevard, or delve into its Celtic and Roman history.
Â
An English-speaking, local guide will take you to discover the old center of Oviedo with its monumental buildings, theater, and churches. She will also take you into the Cathedral to tell you all about its architecture, history, and important role Oviedo plays on the route to Santiago de Compostela.
The rest of the day you can explore Oviedo further and visit its covered market full of fresh fish, Asturian cheeses, breads, and fruits, and the old town, or go shopping in the more modern neighborhood.
From Gijon, you drive in 1.5 hours along the Cantabrian Coast to National Park Picos de Europa. Along the way, you have the chance to stop at Asturias´ Jurassic Coast or visit typical Asturian villages. During the next few days, you stay in a small-scale Bed and Breakfast with 5 rooms in total. During breakfast, you overlook the impressive peaks of Spain´s first National Park.
Â
The Lagos de Covadonga is one of the most visited places in Asturias, and not without a reason. Depending on the time of the year, you can drive from Covadonga up to the mountain lakes with your own car, or you take a bus. Once you are at the lakes, you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery, go for a hike, or enjoy a typical Asturian meal.
Â
It´s time for another breathtaking walk! You will enter the Ruta del Cares, a mountain hike along a gorge of hundreds of meters deep. Because of its length (12 km go and 12 km back) and steepness, hiking experience, proper gear, and no fear of heights are indispensable! There is also the possibility to only hike one way, and opt for a tour by 4*4 on the way back.Â
Today, it´s time to say goodbye to beautiful Asturias. Or, you´re welcome to extend your visit and let us customize your trip further!
