Overview
This tour let you discover two main aspects of Asturias’ prehistory: prehistoric cave art and dinosaur fossils.
The paleolithic art discovered in the Tito Bustillo Cave in 1968 is among Europe’s most spectacular cave art. We’ll visit the most impressive “panel” with over 100 figures, among which the famous depictions of bovines, horses and deer.
Since not all of Tito Bustillo’s panels are accessible for the public, we’ll also visit the nearby Tito Bustillo Cave Art Center. The center contains replicas of the other cave art. It also gives an excellent impression of the hunter-gatherers that occupied this area between 35.000 and 10.000 years ago. They made the art, and we’ll learn everything about their lives and habits.
If time permits, we’ll also visit the Ardines Cave, which is part of the Tito Bustillo Cave complex. It’s an impressive cave of over 40 meters in height.
Afterwards, we’ll drive along Asturias’ Dinosaur Coast to Colunga. This part of the coast gets its name because of the abundant presence of original dinosaur footprints and fossil bones from dinosaurs and other Jurassic reptiles.
Here, we’ll guide you around the Jurassic Museum of Asturias (MUJA)Â where you can learn everything about these impressive reptiles that inhabited the earth between 251 and 65 million years ago.
Finally, we’ll take a stroll along the beautiful coast to search for original dinosaur footprints. These sauropod tracks are among the largest in the world!
Note: Since the itinerary of the day depends on the availability of entrance tickets to the Tito Bustillo cave, the order of the places we’ll visit can change. However, we’ll visit all the places mentioned. We’ll inform you about the exact program after your reservation.
