Beers, wines and cheeses at the local organic market in Cabranes

The local organic market is organized every second Sunday of the month from 11 am to 3 pm. The ‘Plaza Mayor’ of the quiet village of Santolaya de Cabranes converts these Sundays in a meeting point for sellers and buyers of local and organic products.

Often, these people live in the surroundings of Cabranes. In the last decades a community of people striving for a self-sustaining lifestyle developed here. The market is also a place where locals and expats, mainly pensioners, catch up on the latest news.

Wonderful weather to visit the market

We visit the local organic market on a sunny day in January. We spend a few hours walking around, tasting the home-made cakes and beers and enjoying the band that is playing.

Paella (including a vegetarian version, which is quite unique for Asturias!) is served for lunch in a relaxed atmosphere.

Visiting the market can nicely be combined with a trip to the delta of the Ria de Villaviciosa, which is only 15 minutes away by car. Also, a circular walking trail of about 10 km starts in the village, enabling you to explore the beautiful countryside. And finally, all kind of activities are organized throughout the year by a local organization, immersing you in the countryside life.
